The exhaustion of Ale: Feb 28th

After trekking up hill for 1.5 hours with Sofia perched like a princess in her backpack, Ale and I were confident that we were close to reaching the beautiful volcanic lakes of Pucon, the gorgeous lake district in southern Chile. Imagine our disbelief when we reached a sign finally welcoming us to the entrance of the National Park.

We looked at each other with incredulous looks on our faces, laughed out loud and kept trekking....up hill. For another 2.5 hours. Yes...that joint laugh, should have actually been whimpers of exhaustion. I have honestly never seen Ale soooo spent.

When we finally made it to the top, the 2 lakes were beautiful. It was late enough that nobody else was around (we had passed them all on our struggle uphill) so mother nature belonged to us for a few precious moments. And it was divine. The water was emerald green, the sky a perfect blue and the silence magnificent.

It was kinda like childbirth - the pain is instantly forgotten, the moment you behold the beauty of life right there in front of you.

PS: Quick recap... 5kms straight up from the national park entrance, a 7 hour round trip, a couple of rolled ankles and some well deserved beers back at the hostel. God love the spirit of adventure.
