Santiago: Feb 20th

I had no expectations of Chile nor Santiago, so imagine my delight when we discovered what a really lovely city it is.

Nestled up against the mountains, which you see peaking out from behind the buildings, it's roads are wide, the parks are plentiful, the fountains beautiful and the trees everywhere. The architecture is lovely and the buildings are low, so there is harmony between the ground and the sky.

My favourite discoveries were the lapis lazuli workshops (the stone is only naturally found in Chile and Afghanistan), the murals and the pub area of Bellavista. The city has a really chilled out atmosphere that encourages you to sit down, have a cold beer and stay a while.

Sofia also hugely impressed by the rock band playing The Doors, Metallica etc at the entrance of the subway. Very, very cool!
