One can't visit NZ without seeing some part of the ground bubbling up before you.
Our choice was to visit the Waimangu Geothermal Park outside of Rotorua. A pretty incredible place unlike anywhere else in the world. Basically a volcano exploded 150 years ago killing all plant and animal life in the area, opening a crack in the earth 17kms long and creating a line of craters and lakes. The recolonisation of plant, animal and bird life is remarkable (and under constant research) and where there was once no surface 'hydrothermal' activity, we now have steaming cliffs, acid blue lakes, bubbling water and hot springs. All rather amazing and worth a wander.
What really surprised me was that Sofia ran along the track for 15 minutes straight giggling all the way. Where does her energy and stamina come from?!
