Random thoughts on a Wednesday (9th Jan)

Sitting in Starbucks, sipping my $4.73 Chai Tea Latte on the corner of 41st and Lexington. Sofia and Ale having some Papa and daughter bonding time back at the apt. Ie: I do believe they're sleeping.

You do see some strange sights wandering around NYC.
A girl with her Klingon-styled eyebrows. She was a small, petite blond and they were incredibly large, black, fluffy caterpillars that were nesting above her eyes. Do eyebrow-muffs exist? If so, I know where you can get some.

A comic-book gangster dude on the streets of Chelsea. Almost too surreal in his huge square-shouldered jacket, dead fox fur - complete with head - slung over his shoulder, small brimmed hat sitting on the crown of his head and to top it off, the largest circumferenced cigar I've ever seen clutched between his enormous fingers. 'Puerto-Rican, Charlie' Michael casually mentioned, without breaking his pace as we walked by. I should learn to be less obvious when I stare :).

Cool 20-somethings skateboarding down Broadway.

Sofia drinking her first Chai Tea Latte on the streets of Soho. So cute. First sip...'Mama, latte'. Second sip....'No, tea'. Third sip...'No, latte'. Hee hee.

The Freedom Tower. We walked past Ground Zero today and the Freedom Tower is under construction. It's still an incredibly powerful place to visit. Ale and I agreed not to do the tour. I think the cloudy weather and cold wind amplified the feelings of being a little overwhelmed and sad. There was a homeless man lovingly cleaning every inch of the relief they erected in memory of those lost, talking to anyone and everyone. 'Know the facts', 'Not everyone who died is on the list', 'Look at the relief - there are women represented too within the NYPD/NYFD'. I visited Ground Zero 5 years ago, but I think a lot more time is needed to heal the wounds.

Ben Stiller: As I was struggling to get Sofia in her backpack in Soho, Ben Stiller casually brushed passed with his friend. Ale giggled with glee. I ran (like an idiot) down the street to confirm it actually was Ben - it was. We were a little star-struck for a moment and smiled at each other. Our first celebrity spotting!
