'What are you doing to bring peace to the world?'

Ale's pupils dilated, his nostrils flared slightly & a nervous smile formed around his lips. Then he looked at me with pleading eyes. How on earth was he going to answer this question?

We were sitting in the beautiful 'Red Victorian' on Haight Street, San Francisco. Hippy central during the 60's. The Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix all lived within 2 blocks of this street and Jimi's studio was on this street. Love-ins and concerts were regular events in the park down the street. Such a cool part of town.

The Red Victorian is a beautifully restored hotel by Sami Sunchild. An artist and peace promoter. She bought the rundown hotel in the 70's and slowly restored it herself. The rooms are...put simply, absolutely gorgeous. They are all individually themed and each one more beautiful than the next. Everyone is welcome and discussions about peace, the world are held openly. We spent a good hour there just soaking up the positive energy, talking to some incredibly good and interesting people and reading all the inspiring words written by Sami. She was there too sitting at a table with a group of random people discussing life. She's lovely.

So, back to Ale....I jumped in with my New Year's resolution 'Love more. Live more' and the way to finding peace in the world was to find it in yourself first. Ale, then having had the ice broken added his piece about living one's morals and values and generally being a good person.

What about you? What are you doing to bring peace to the world?'
